Attitudes are Contagious

Customers want to buy things from salespeople who are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about what they are doing and possess a positive mental attitude.

What exactly is a positive mental attitude? According to Webster, attitude is defined as a ‘state of mind’.  Based on my experience with thousands of salespeople, Webster has it right. All you have to do to understand a salesperson’s attitude is to listen to what is said and how it is said. A salesperson’s attitude is on display for everyone to see and hear. Interestingly, the attitude a salesperson possesses, whether positive or negative, is contagious.

Accept the fact that most of your material possessions you owe to your customers.  They’ve helped you make a living because you’ve decided to treat your customers the way you want to be treated—with a positive attitude.  That’s not difficult to accept, is it?   Ask yourself, “What would my business life be like without a positive attitude to share with my customers?”

Make a list of all the positive things you now enjoy because you treated your customers the way you want to be treated.  Then file it away.  When you find yourself not thinking as positively as you would like, get out that piece of paper and read it.  You’ll see an amazing change in your attitude almost instantly.  Your customers will see and hear a positive, enthusiastic and excited salesperson.  Sales and income can’t help but improve.

Good luck and good selling!
